Wedding Favorites

Don't forget to nominate a friend for a free portrait session and prints!

Although I shoot family, maternity, and kids portraits all the time, I accept only a very limited number of weddings. I have two weddings coming up in the next week, so I'm taking some time to get myself into wedding mode. It's fun to pull out the Brides magazines and get lost in this unique form of photography. I've been flipping through some of my own pictures, too and pulled out some of my favorites (below). The picture of Mark and Kim is one I absolutely LOVE. It's a classic example of how a picture really can be worth a thousand words. The expression on his face says it all.

Now, it's off to Gibraltar for a family portrait session with the Stillmocks. We finally have a gorgeous day!!:) - Kate

Nominate a Friend Contest

Why does your friend deserve a FREE session and prints?

Do you know someone who would really love to receive a FREE photo session, resulting in 30 retouched images and free prints? Tell me why this person deserves the session and you just might win it for him or her! The winner will receive one on-location session with Kate and $100 towards prints. Since print packages start at $100, the winner doesn't have to pay a dime unless he or she chooses to upgrade to a different package or order additional a la carte items. There is no travel fee for any area within a 25-mile radius of Newark, DE. The winner must book his or her session for a date sometime before January 31, 2009.

How to enter:
Send an e-mail to preciousmemoriespix@gmail.com describing in 250 words or less why the individual you are nominating deserves to win. Please be specific because I'm not the one who will be doing the judging! So, if you say, "I want to nominate Kelly ... you know what kind of a year she's been having," the judge will have NO idea what you're talking about, even if I do.

Deadline:
All entries must be submitted by November 29, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

The judge:
Our judge this time around will be Tara Voigt from SAS cupcakes in Newark. I thought she'd be the perfect judge because she's a business-savvy Mom with a giant heart. (Her cupcakes happen to be pretty amazing, too! Don't take my word for it ... go check it out!)

The winner will be announced on this blog in early December.
Questions? Please let me know!!!

Two More TUTU Cute Shots!

So ... it's 11:59 on a Sunday night and I'm supposed to be in bed. I'm trying to become an early to bed early to rise sort of person. So far I'm not having much success with it. I've read recently that every hour of sleep prior to midnight is so good for you that it's really like two hours. If that's true then it's no wonder I'm always tired in the morning. I tend to hit the sack around 2:00. So really, if I turn in now, that's progress! Anyway, the reason I can't get to bed early is below ... too many cute pictures to work on! Here are two more from Maliya's tutu cute pictures session in Collingswood, NJ. She sure is one seriously expressive gal:) - Kate

Way Tutu Cute!

If you've never visited Collingswood, NJ, it's definitely a place to add to your "must visit" list. My grandparents live there and I've always loved the bright storefronts and quaint feel of the shops that sit along Haddon Ave. I've wanted to do a portrait session there for some time now. (Just as a side note ... if you're looking for adorable furniture for your kid's room, or any room, for that matter, definitely visit the Painted Cottage. Super, super cute stuff.) So, it seemed the perfect place to try out my new custom-made tutu! I've been having fun with tulle and as you'll see in the pictures below, the results are adorable. And Ms. Maliya is, as usual, the perfect model. She's sure to be a Gap covergirl in no time! The full gallery will be up soon, until then, here's a sneak peek:) - Kate

P.S. More details about the upcoming "Nominate a Friend" contest will be posted in the very, very near future. And just so you know, I won't be doing any of the judging ... just to keep it 100% fair.

Barefoot Bella

This past Sunday I spent some time down in Milford, DE with Kate and her adorable family. Kate's online children's boutique, Barefoot Bella, is filled with great stuff for kids. Our goal was to capture some fun pictures for her site using her favorite models ... her four children. She assured me over the phone that they are super cute, and she was right! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the shoot. The complete online gallery will be ready in another week or so. Meanwhile, check out all the great finds at barefootbella.net! - Kate

Oh man! What a cute kid!

This was a busy weekend for me! I traveled down to Milford, DE to shoot some pictures for a new online baby boutique (I'll post some of those tomorrow) and I also met up with Holley at White Clay Park for the free mini-session she won on this blog. As I mentioned before, she decided to donate her photo session to Kent ... a seriously cute kid! Kent's family has had some rough times, so I really, really hope the pictures will make them smile big:) We had actually finished the session and were heading back to the cars when Holley remembered that she had brought a red scarf to match his outfit. So, out we trekked again ... and I'm so glad we did. The scarf shots ended up being my favorites!

More Free Stuff to Come ...
It was a fun session and it got me thinking ... giving away stuff rocks! So, starting October 24, I'm going to begin accepting submissions for a different kind of contest. (And this time I'm giving away a free regular session and $99 print package.) People tell me all the time that they would love to get their pictures done, but they just can't afford it right now. Well ... I totally understand. In fact, I'm so broke that I had to ... gulp ... go back to my natural hair color (which is definitely not blonde!) So anyway, if you know someone who would love pictures but it's just not in the budget right now, nominate him or her! Or, if you know someone who just has a big heart and you think deserves something special, let me know! We'll select one individual to receive a free session (and prints) with me, your friendly *brunette* photographer:) Check back later this week for more details on the contest. Meanwhile, here's Kent's big debut ... - Kate

Congratulations, Holley!

Holley is the first winner of a free mini-session with Kate! She decided to check the blog today and low and behold it was literally 30 seconds after I posted. She responded in less than a minute! And the best part is that she is gifting the session to a family that will really, really appreciate it ... so I'm extra excited.

More freebies to come ...
Thanks to everyone for staying posted and playing along. This was fun, so I'll definitely do something like this in the very near future. Maybe we'll get a chance to use my two new props that I just picked up at some antique stores. The child rocking chair is the perfect size for a two- or three-year-old. And I can't wait to prop a little newborn in the vintage doll carriage. Love, love them!  - Kate

Family Portraits

Yesterday I met back up with the Caffini family at Gibraltar Gardens in Wilmington, DE for some casual family pictures. The thing I loved most about our shoot is that even though the Caffini "kids" are really almost all grown up now, their Mom still wanted to get some updated pictures of them together. And as most mothers will admit, this doesn't always happen as often as it should once the kids get past a certain age. You start out by taking family portraits each year, but then before you know it, time flies ... (mustaches grow) ... and suddenly your babies aren't so little anymore. Anyway, we had a blast! We took a few pyramid shots, did some cartwheels, rolled in the grass ... you know, all the things you'd expect to do during a "grown-up" family portrait session. Here are a few of my favorites so far (just to hold Mom over until next week). Enjoy! - Kate

Dave & Jen's Engagement Pictures

Yesterday, I met up with Ninja Dave and his lovely fiance, Jen at White Clay Park in Newark, DE for their engagement session. (Ninja Dave? The picture below will explain everything!) Engagement sessions are really important, in my opinion, because they're a great way for the couple and me to get to know each other a little better prior to the wedding. It's also an opportunity for them to learn a little about my shooting style, and to ask questions. In Dave and Jen's case, the pictures are extra important as they'll be choosing one of them to use on their invitations. (I vote for the Ninja shot!:)) As you can see in the pictures below, they're a lovely couple and I can't wait for their big day to arrive! I'm sure we'll get some amazing shots then, too. The full gallery of images will be ready in a week or so, until then, enjoy the preview below. - Kate

A Mind of Their Own

I had big plans today. My "cupcake shoot" with Maliya went so well the other week that I thought I'd try it again with another of my favorite models, Aidan. So, with yummy SAS cupcakes in hand, I showed up right after nap time. We got him all ready for his close up, pulled out the scrumptious chocolate cupcakes and waited for him to get happy. And then we waited, and waited some more. Apparently he's not much of a cupcake man! We got a couple cute shots of him, but then he was back off with his trains. So, his Mom and I left the cupcakes behind and decided to try something a little different (alright, I talked her into it:)). And we wound up with some of my new favorite photos. The moral of the story? When you photograph children, be patient. Keep shooting. Let them call the shots. The results are always well worth the effort. The full gallery of pictures should be up sometime next week. Hope you enjoy them!:)  - Kate
