Fabulous Picture Party -- Delaware Glamour Photographer

Saturday afternoon I worked with some very fabulous ladies at Judy's Beautiful You picture party. And because they were such a fun group, we decided to go "on location." And what a location! As we pulled in, the sky was a dark velvety blue and we knew it was going to rain. No problem ... we had umbrellas. But as the girls peered around, they looked a little confused. "Um, Kate. Why did you bring us to the middle of this very strange place?" "Because it's awesome," I said. No doubt Holley remembers the awesomeness of this little military-experiment-gone-wrong area of Delaware City. We still don't know what it is. But it sure is a cool backdrop for pictures! So Vogue!

This was such a fun picture party because it included ladies of all ages, and I really love that. We laughed a lot. Struck a few crazy poses. Got a bit wet. And then went back to Judy's to sip some chocolate wine.

Doesn't this look like a fun group?

Even Sandy got into it. She told us that she was only there to watch. But, after the first person went, she caved and let me do some headshots. I'm so glad she did : )

Oh my. Look at Jennifer's hair. So. Seriously. Gorgeous.

You've seen Kristin before on my blog. But usually she's sharing the frame with her blue-eyed man and one of my favorite little models, Mr. Aiden. But this time it was all her : ) (And Tim, if you're reading this, don't let her say she doesn't look awesome!!!!)

Whew ... Christina is fierce in black and white!!

We even had a mother/daughter set at our party. I love that. Here is the fabulous Mom ...

... her beautiful daughter (and future Grandchild!!) ...

... and her adorable Grandog (who just so happened to be absolutely exhausted from all of the modeling) ...

When we got back to the house, Judy's husband asked, "did you see the rainbow?" WHAT?! A rainbow! Uh, no, we didn't. No worries. I added one in. After all, Judy was an awesome hostess, so she definitely deserves a rainbow!

Judy is learning to play the cello, so I thought it would be fun to take some pictures of her playing. I love how they turned out : )

I had such a blast working with you all. Thank you so much, Judy for throwing such a fun party. And serving chocolate wine. I'll let you know when the full gallery is ready for you girls.

Happy cold, dreary, October-wanna-be Tuesday!

Ballerina Shots -- Delaware Senior Photographer

Waaaaaay back in January of this year, I put out a casting call for a fabulous ballerina. The goal? To capture some lovely images for my Beautiful You gallery. Elaine, who dances at the Delaware Dance Company, volunteered for the job, and we were finally able to do the shoot. It was a close call, though. The sky was threatening us the entire time we shot in Gibraltar. But, the rain held off. And except for one giant crowd of power walkers that whizzed through the gardens (while whistling what I guess they thought was ballet music), we had the place to ourselves. And we got some amazing shots. So many that this is a giant share. I wish I could let each of these images sit on their own, instead of as twos and threes, but you'd be scrolling for a mile. Maybe two.

Poor Elaine. I pulled out some of my old tulle dresses ... the ones that REALLY itch ... and she didn't even flinch. She was a really good sport. I love how this dress looks in the garden.

I love these!! So cute!!

I think that this next one might be my favorite. There's just something about it that I love.

What? You don't water your plants like this? ...

Yowsa! Elaine is an AMAZING jumper. AMAZING. The garden wasn't the greatest place for jumping shots ... just because no matter where you go, there's a busy background. But, I couldn't pass up the chance to get some shots!

Whew ... told you I had lots of images to share! A special thanks to Elaine and her Mom for helping me out with this project. I had so much fun!! I'll let you know when your full gallery is ready for you.

Happy Thursday!

It's all Little Red Riding Hood's Fault!

Now there's an exclamation I never thought I'd make. And yet, as I sat there waiting for a tow truck, red cape crumpled in the back seat of the car, mosquitoes swarming about, I wondered if I should tell the guy the truth. Should I tell him that my Mom and I were out in the woods taking pictures of me dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood when suddenly, the car got stuck? (Side note: My brother recommended that I not remove the cape and just ask the guy when he arrived if he knew the way to my Grandmother's house. And then wait for a reaction. He also suggested that I wear the outfit home on Monday and stop in at the highway rest areas and ask the kind people at the information desk if they could give me directions to my Grandmother's house. He's a funny guy, my brother.)

So, why were we out taking Little Red Riding Hood pictures in the first place, you ask? Well, simply put, because I thought it would make for some fun pictures. And I wanted to see if I could not look sad and grumpy in a picture ... which is how I always look when my picture is taken. Sad. Grumpy. And like I'm going to cry. See ... here are some my Mom shot of me at Pemaquid Lighthouse a few days ago.

I wanted to look peaceful ... but it just comes out looking sad. (And no, I haven't brushed my hair in a week. I've washed it, but that's about it. And yes, I know that the bottom half is a completely different color than the top. We'll just call it a transitional phase.) So, I thought that maybe what I needed was a scene ... or a little story to act out. I've been thinking about doing a Little Red Riding Hood shoot with someone ... so I decided to see if it would work. (Side note: I'd LOVE to try another theme or story with someone else! Keep this in mind if you're thinking about a Beautiful You shoot. It's fun to tell a story with your photos!)

So, off I went down the lane to my Grandmother's house ...

Into the woods I went ... where, apparently, I saw something VERY shocking. (And yes, Bella was totally embarrassed to be with me.)

Finally! Grandmother's house (aka, the laundry house of one our neighbors down the lane).

I copied this next pose off of the cover of the Nancy Drew book I was reading ... a fact that confirms what you've been thinking as you read this post: Yes. I'm truly a dork.

So, anyway, the tow truck came and the guy was just as nice as could be. He got us out and didn't even laugh. This little adventure, however, did kind of mess up my day today. I was supposed to be preparing to leave Sunday morning, but that's going to have to be pushed forward a day. I have a super busy week ahead of me, so that's kind of a bummer. But, it is nice to get one more day here in Maine. It's just so lovely here. I'm going to be sad to leave. And two of the memories that I'll miss the most are posted right below ...

1. The view. I wake up to this view every morning. I fall asleep to it, too. The moon lights up the lake at night.

2. My grandfather's seafood dinner. He was happy as a little clam (pardon the pun). And I must say, he does look pretty fabulous for 92!

So, it's all Little Red Riding Hood's fault. I'll be home a day late. But feel free to contact me via e-mail with any questions. I'll be returning phone calls on Tuesday.

Happy Saturday!
