Tutus & Tiaras -- Delaware Baby Photographer

Yesterday morning was pink, ruffly, sweet, and lovely. I spent some time with Maggie and her beautiful little Alexandra, who is happiest when wearing a pink tutu. Although Alexandra doesn't remember it, I've been photographing her from the very beginning, even before she was born. But, when I first arrived yesterday, her sweet little almond eyes filled with tears and her bottom lip quivered. Then she cried the cutest little cry I think I've ever heard. She was NOT happy to see me. It took a minute, but then she warmed up to me. That is, until her Mommy left the room to change. She looked up at me and the lip started to quiver again.

Mommy came back, and all was right with the world again.

She got ready for her close-up.

She was just as cute as can be in her little headband.

And her hat, too.

I think that this next one is my absolute favorite from the morning. I absolutely LOVE it. It's girly, sweet, and 100% love.

Although, I'm kind of in love with the next one, too.

Maggie is a very talented artist, so we had to take Alexandra up to her studio for her first art lesson.

She then happily posed for us in front of some of her Mommy's paintings.

It was waaaay past nap time.

And we finished our session with some sweet sleeping shots

Such a little doll : )  I'm looking forward to her next session. Especially since I spotted an old cast iron tub in the bathroom. I was absolutely drooling over it! Is there such a thing as pink bubbles? If so, I'll bet she'll have them!

Hope everyone is enjoying our 60 degree day! It's not going to last ... so get out and breathe deep. Have a great weekend! - Kate

Precious Little Baby -- Delaware Newborn Photographer

His name is Hunter ... and he's just about as cute as it comes. He's a good little baby, too. He did some sleeping, some eating, some staring, and even a little dreaming while I was there. What he didn't do (and I so appreciate it, Hunter) was pee on anything or anyone. And considering the fact that he was sans diaper for a pretty good amount of time, it was nothing short of a miracle. You saw his cute little preview to the preview yesterday, but now here's more of my favorites.

He made us work for this next one. He was absolutely convinced that it was more fascinating to look at his dad's shirt instead of me. Perhaps if I had worn a better outfit? I don't know. But, we finally got it.

Hunter's Mom plays the piano, and his Dad plays the guitar. So, we just had to do one of these ...

Ok, now this next one may be my absolute favorite from the day. It turned out so insanely cute. I just love it!!!

Dry clean only blanket from Grandma. No diaper. Whew!! We were some risk takers!

I have sooo many more gorgeous pictures for Hunter and his Mommy and Daddy. It was a fun session ... and I'm so glad I got to come and capture some memories for my old friends.

Hope everyone is starting to defrost a bit. The sun sure does feel good today! Happy Wednesday! - Kate

I Heart Faces! - Delaware Portrait Photographer

It's going to be a postful day today on the blog. Yup, I just made up a word. But, it's my blog, so no one can tell me I can't use my very own vocabulary! Each week, the face-loving folks over at the iheartfaces blog host a photo contest. There are two contests ... one for photos of adults, and one for photos of kids. In order to enter, I have to post the photos on my blog. The category this week is black and white. So, here's my entry for adults. Why did I choose this one? Because I agree completely with Charles, who left a sweet comment about his wife when I originally posted the session. He said, "Look at my gorgeous wife looking fantastic with her beautiful eyes!"

This is a fun contest. It's nice to see other professional and amateur photographers' work. View the adults entries here.

And since this is one of my favorites from my session yesterday, I thought I'd use it as my entry for this week's black and white category. Shhh ... baby (with a super cute face) sleeping : )

There's lots of adorable entries. Check them out here ...

I'll post the rest of this little guy's preview next : )  - Kate

Delaware Newborn Photography

Meet Hunter. I just got back from his newborn session this afternoon, and I can't even wait to finish downloading the rest of his pictures before I share this one with you. Every time I think I should change the name of my company to something a little less "precious," like Kate Callahan Photography, I see a picture like this ...

... and I'm right back on the "precious" bandwagon. Because, really, what better word is there for this picture? He's absolutely, positively precious.

Alright, it's back to downloading and backing up the rest of his session. I'll share a full preview tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Tuesday : ) - Kate

Grumpy Day

Today is just one of those days. The kind when you wake up late ... and consequently, get up on the wrong side of the bed. Not sure how I managed to do it, but I woke up about 4 hours late. Oops. So, now I'm totally thrown off and feeling just a little grumpy. So, before diving into the pile of work that sits before me, I decided to cheer myself up by making the following picture.

How could I not feel better after looking at so much cuteness?!

Bella is a little old lady now. She's probably somewhere between 12 and 13, although I'm not sure because when I got her from the humane society, the folks there weren't really sure of her age. They thought she was five. But, the vet thought she was three ... because her teeth were so good. And seven years later, she still has some gorgeous chompers. Maybe that's why she's such a diva. She's gorgeous ... and she knows it. Many of my clients have already met Bella ... since she frequently comes along with me for on-location shoots. She guards all the equipment in the car, while sunning herself on the dashboard and barking at each and every person that comes to close. Because of her unswerving cuteness, she has even landed herself on one of my new cards. I'll be selling boxed sets of 6 postcards with envelopes. Each postcard will feature a different picture ... and different quote or saying. The first one in the set is none other than ...

It's a message that Bella firmly believes. I'll share the rest of the set later this week.

Hope everyone is having a less grumpy day than me! - Kate

Fix-It Friday

I just stumbled across a fun blog for photographers! iHeartFaces is all about the art of photographing ... faces. On Fridays, they post an unedited picture that has some, well, problems. Photographers are then invited to retouch the photo with their own style. I think it's so fascinating to see how every photographer does a little something different with the image. It's not a contest, it's just a chance to have a little fun. Here's what I did ...

Before ...

After ...

Isn't Photoshop just the best??!! You can check out other photographers' edits here.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! - Kate

Deception -- Delaware Child Photographer

Public Service Announcement: Don't be fooled by this kid! He's a master of deception. If he pitches a little fit and starts to cry, there's only a 50% chance he's actually upset. The rest of the time he's just pulling your leg. Mine got pulled about 20 times on Thursday. In typical two-year-old style, he'd start to whine if something wasn't to his liking. We'd stop and look at him. And then suddenly, as if he couldn't hold it back anymore, he would burst out laughing. Like, "ha ha! I fooled you!" Here he is right after fooling me the first time.

You can't really get upset at him, though. One look into those big blue eyes and you're hooked.

He LOVES trains.

He does not, however, love the bathtub (or bubbles). So Mom had to do some coaxing. She even used Thomas the Train bubble bath!

I love this next one ...

Then it was time to brush with a Thomas the Train toothbrush and toothpaste. He's an excellent brusher.

This next one is so funny. I love it! Such a little man. The towel was his Mom's idea. I had the brilliant idea of shaving cream on the face -- like Daddy. He was REALLY not into that idea. And he wasn't fooling that time!

Whew! What a big morning! Finally, it was time for a little bed time story (about Thomas the Train, of course) and then off to sleep.

We had such a fun time on Thursday! Many of these pictures were an experiment, as I was shooting with a new lens for half the morning. And thanks again, Kristin, for the yummy lunch and good company! :  )

Hope everyone keeps warm on this chilly, chilly Friday. Have a great weekend! - Kate
